Awards Received at SWIS District Conference held on Feb. 22nd
Honor and Distinguished Club for 2018-2019 – Club President (B. Schambow); Secretary (Maxine Lane) and Treasurer (D. Borgen) were presented with certificates and will receive watches for the Distinguished Club Achievement. This is the third year in a row our club has received these awards. Patches, that will be added to our banner, were also received.

President Engelke was pleased to present John Zuehlke with a check to the “Platteville Music Boosters” The Platteville Optimist Club donated $1000 towards replacement of aged pianos at all Platteville Public Schools. John expressed his appreciation on behalf of the Music Boosters and was pleased to report that pianos have already been ordered.
Our Club was able to do this through a Silent Auction of Ball Card/Memorabilia that was donated by Arnie Roper. We thank all members who purchased memorabilia and/or donated to this
Tim Boldt is the most recent recipient of
the prestigious Sippy Cup Award. Way to go, Tim!
Arnie Roper joined us to explain his generous donation of sports cards and memorabilia. A sale of these items will be launched at a Silent Auction at the Holiday Party on January 12th with profits going to a fundraiser for new pianos for the Platteville Schools.

Winner Winner ... Chicken Dinner!
Tom Nall was not only holding the lucky ticket when the number was called, he also had the magical touch when he ‘cut’ the cards, commenting he was “on the cutting edge” revealing the joker and winning ½ of the pot. Congrats Tom!!

The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary recognized the Platteville Optimist Club for their support of the Wisconsin Badger Boys State and Girls State programs.
American Legion Post 42 Commander Paul Budden and Dee Woolf, Director of Badger Girls State presented Certificates of Appreciation to Optimist member Chris Budden.

Our Club Continues to Grow
It was our pleasure to welcome Diane Paynter as the newest member of our club. Diane is pictured with her sponsor Becky Schambow at her installation ceremony.
Members were alert at our last meeting, spotting 2 members deserving of the prestigious Sippy Cup Award.
Word circulated that Priscilla
Hahn may have been the true recipient;
however she willingly nominated hubby Mike.
And, can you believe it, sister Chris turned in her brother Gene Weber.

Welcome to Our New Newest Members
On June 28th, Jim and Jen Schweigert were officially installed as our newest members. The Schweigerts joined at the April NOW luncheon and are sponsored by Maxine Lane.
It was a pleasure to welcome and officially install Caroline Kroll at our June 14th meeting. Caroline joined at the April NOW luncheon and is sponsored by Peggy Compton.
It was a pleasure to welcome and install 8 of our 11 new members. Becoming official members at the June Business Meeting were (pictured left to right) Matt Tyc, Nicole Tyc, Alaina Reeves, Eileen McCartney, Barb Deis, Penny Droessler, Terry Wood, Tim Wood.
2018/2019 F/Y President Schambow and Steve Lane visited St. Rose in Cuba City on May 24th to join with faculty and students in acknowledging both Dylan Pink and Leah Mergen for their efforts in the local, zone and district oratorical competition and to further wish Dylan good luck as he goes on to regional competition in Saint Louis in July.
Congratulations to Maxine Lane on her election as the Governor Elect for the SWIS District of Optimists for the year 2020-2021.
Currently, Maxine serves as the Platteville Optimist Club secretary. She dedicates countless hours to our club. We are very proud of her and very thankful for all she does to help us bring out the best in kids.
We are all about supporting youth and community.

Congrats to Gary Engelke who was presented with the traditional SWIS District Governor’s Green jacket from Past Governor Jeff Kuchenbecker. Gary served at SWIS District Optimists for the 18-19 year
It was a pleasure to welcome Bob Hundhausen and Shari Engelke to our meeting on Friday, January 18 representing the Legion Park Art Hall fundraising task force.
2018/2019 F/Y Club President, Becky Schambow presented a check from the Optimist Club for $2,000 to support this community event.

The Platteville Optimist Club celebrated the centennial of Optimist International by forming the number 100. Our thanks to our Optimist Members, the UW-Platteville Wrestling Team for their participation and to Jamie Collins for her assistance.
We ended our year bestowing two Sippy Cup Awards in a single day! Accidents do happen and we love to capture them.
Santa made a surprise visit to us just before Christmas. Everyone received a candy cane and two of our members also received coal. Santa encouraged them to work hard to get on the nice list before Christmas. The kid in us BELIEVES!
