Service Projects

The Platteville Optimist Club has a strong history of service, supporting local schools and numerous youth-oriented community projects and activities.  Members are ready to give back to our community, both as volunteers and leaders, whether it be through an Optimist sponsored event or on an individual basis.  Optimists serve the community by providing time and funds to Optimist-sponsored activities, as well as volunteering in other local events that require additional personnel (click HERE to see a listing of these activities).   We also contribute monies to other organizations so they may carry out their missions (click HERE to see a listing of who we support annually).  In the 2018-2019 year, we gave approximately $14,000 towards these efforts.

Cheese Curd Sales

Our biggest fundraiser is making and selling our "famous" cheese curds at Platteville's Dairy Days and the Grant County Fair, and occasionally at other local venues.  Nearly all members volunteer at least three hours per summer working a shift at curd sales.  Despite the mess, most find it very enjoyable (and of course, there are always "quality control" perks).  We consistently raise in excess of $10,000 annually, channeling all proceeds towards enriching area youth.   Curd sale dates and work schedules are posted under CLUB EVENTS on the HOME page.
