Tri-Star Basketball Skills Contest
March or April
This is a skills-based competition for boys and girls ages 6-13. The Platteville competition occurs in March or April at Platteville High School. First and second-place winners in each age bracket are eligible to go on to the SWIS District competition, also held in April.

Books for Babies
The Optimists Club gives each baby born in our area their very first book at the hospital to encourage a love of reading. (Spanish Versions also available).

Cheese Curd Sales
August and September

Our cheese curd sales are very popular each year at the Grant County Fair in August and Platteville Dairy Days in September. Many Optimist volunteers make these events very successful. Join us and become part of these fun community events.
Join us for delicious cheese curds at the 2025 Grant County Fair from August 13th - 17th and at Dairy Days, September 5th-7th.




Bike Rodeo
Optimist volunteers conduct a bike safety event. Participants in the Bike Rodeo take part in a skills course. Fun prizes like bike helmets and backpacks are awarded. Many thanks to all of the volunteers.

Optimist Youth Contests
In these annual competitions, youth compete at the local level; winners move to the district level, with the potential to advance to the state and national level. At the local level, the Essay Contest occurs in February and the Oratorical Contest takes place in March. Click on the links for information and rules. ​

Santa Calling
Every year little boys and girls get a phone call from Mr. or Mrs. Claus. Bringing that joy and wonder to children is special to the Optimist Club.

Storybook Walks
The Platteville Optimists set up storybook walks at various locations throughout Platteville in late Spring and Summer. Look for your next learning adventure!​
