Optimist Club-Involved Service Activities

These activities directly involve volunteers from the Platteville Optimist Club.

  • Party in the Park -- Optimist volunteers operate the free food stand (hot dogs, milk and ice cream) at Platteville's annual July event to honor local volunteers.

  • Country Kitchen Garden -- located on the south end of the Country Kitchen parking lot, this public use picnic area adjoins the Platteville Community Arboretum trail, and will be maintained by volunteer club members as of summer 2016.

  • Platteville Holiday Project -- volunteers pick up donated toys at local businesses and deliver to a centralized location for distribution to area youth, late November/early December

  • Santa Calling -- in December, Optimist members, impersonating Santa or Mrs. Santa, call local youngsters to ask what they would like for Christmas.  Fun and heartwarming for everyone! Click on Santa Calling to view and print form.

Optimist International Youth Contests

In these annual competitions, youth compete at the local level; winners move to the district level, with the potential to advance to the state and national level.  At the local level, the Essay Contest occurs in February, the Oratorical Contest in March, and the TriStar Basketball Contest in March/early April.  Click on the links for information and rules.
