Crofoot, Vice President Great Plains Region
We are honored to report that Platteville Optimist Club's very own Howard Crofoot has been selected to be the 2026-2027 Vice President of the Great Plains Region of Optimist International. When asked to describe his history with the Platteville Optimist Club and his new role as Great Plains Vice President, Howard stated:
As the 2026–2027 Great Plains Vice-President, I am honored to work with amazing leaders at all levels of our organization. I joined the Platteville Optimist Club nearly 30 years ago when I first came to Platteville to serve our community and to get to know people.
I have served at the Club level on many committees and was honored to be your President in 1999 – 2000 and again in 2021 – 2022. I started working with the Southern Wisconsin District on their website in 2005. I was asked to be the Zone Lieutenant Governor in 2008 – 2009. Our Zone has 2 Monroe clubs, Brodhead, Darlington, Fennimore, LaCrosse and our club. Today, that Zone has 285 members. The task of the Lieutenant Governor is to assist and mentor Club Presidents and represent OI and the District. I was humbled to be the Southern Wisconsin District Governor in 2015 – 2016. There are currently 43 clubs with 1,215 members in the District. A District Governor is responsible as the CEO of the District promoting club growth and developing future leaders.
In my role as Great Plains Region Vice-President, I mentor six (6) District Governors. Those Districts cover the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, the states of Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, North & South Dakota, Montana and the northern tier of counties in Wyoming. It also includes the Provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. I represent the Region and serve as a resource for these Districts.
Our Mission as Optimist International: By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in youth, our communities, and ourselves. One way to bring out the best in ourselves is to take advantage of the volunteer and leadership opportunities. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had and hope I can help show the way for our members to get more involved and become the best version of themselves.
