Doctor Stormont is the Chief Medical Officer and Board-Certified Urologist at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County (MHLC). He grew up in Monroe, WI and received his undergraduate degree from UW-Madison. After teaching for several years, he returned to UW-Madison's School of Medicine and Public Health for his medical degree. He completed his residency in Urology at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Keeping up the family tradition, Doctor Stormont followed his grandfather and father in becoming a physician. His wife is also a doctor. He explained that job shadowing his Grandpa Jim, who was still practicing at age 87, most influenced his decision to study medicine. When talking about his decision to study Urology, he stated, "If you help a man go to the bathroom and have sexual relations you have a friend for life."
Urology covers everything from the tip of the kidney to the urethra. Typical Urologic problems include overactive bladder (OAB), urinary incontinence, kidney stones, elevated PSA, low testosterone/erectile dysfunction, (benign prostatic hyperplasia) BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia)/issues urinating and blood in the urine. Many of these issues affect both men and women. Problems with incontinence/OAB can be caused by urgency, stress, or mixed but are not a normal part of aging. One of the possible non-invasive solutions is pelvic floor physical therapy. He stressed that if you have blood in your urine, you need to be evaluated. Ignoring these issues can lead to bigger problems. Prostate enlargement/BPH are very common in men as they age and many conditions can be managed with medications or non invasive therapy. Doctor Stormont concluded by reminding men to GET PSA SCREENING!
