Maria Schmitt completes her final Girl Scout project

In February of 2024, Maria Schmitt spoke to our Optimist Club about her Gold Award Girl Scout project. Maria had identified a child safety concern with the old benches at Abing Field in Platteville. Maria’s project was to build four benches to be placed around the relocated playground near Abing Field. At the time she spoke to our Club, she was in the fundraising phase of her project.

Fast forward to today. Maria, now a Girl Scout Ambassador, designed, constructed, and helped install 4 brand new benches. Optimist Mark Essex volunteered to help along with City of Platteville Parks worker, Chris Kennicker. Thank you Maria, for the beautiful benches for many to use going forward. Congratulations on a job well done!
