Meghan Skemp, Platteville School District Social Worker / Homeless Liasion, accepts a check from the Platteville Optimist Club to purchase supplies to insert in food packs for students with food insecurities. The district provided over 4000 packs (bags) during the 2024-25 school year. Each pack includes two non-perishable, kid friendly, meals. Tuna, chicken, mac & cheese, beef sticks, bananas, apples, applesauce, and juice boxes are examples of what is included in the packs. Meghan shared that they're currently sending 118 packs home weekly to elementary age students and 10 packs to middle and high school students. Over extended breaks during the school year, an additional 100 packs are distributed to middle and high school students.
This ongoing initiative is solely sustained by community donations and is not funded by the school district budget. All monetary donations are greatly appreciated and can be made through the following website - https://platteville.revtrak.net/district-donations/food-pack-donations/ .
