L-R: Meghan Skemp, Platteville School District, and Optimist President Terri Ellis
Meghan Skemp, Platteville School District Social Worker / Homeless Liasion, accepts a check to purchase supplies to insert in food packs for students with food insecurities. The district provided over 4000 packs (bags) during the 2024-25 school year. There is no budget for this service in the district so unfortunately they are not able to advertise it. Each pack includes two non-perishable, kid friendly, meals. Tuna, chicken, mac & cheese, beef sticks, bananas, apples, applesauce, and juice boxes are examples of what is included in the packs. Meghan shared that they're currently sending home 118 packs to elementary age students and 10 packs to middle and high school students each week. Over extended breaks during the school year, an additional 100 packs are distributed to middle and high school students are handed out. The Platteville Optimist Club is happy to support the service.
