Coach Gard and Joey Fuhremann

Today we enjoyed our annual visit with UW-Platteville Men's Basketball Coach Jeff Gard. Coach Gard was accompanied by Team Member and Senior Joey Fuhremann. Coach talked about how the team's trip to Greece in April of 2025 was a valuable because it gave returning players an opportunity to bond and grow as a team. Fuhremann was unable to play in Greece due to a recent surgery but served as a media person for the team on the trip.
This year's team has been ranked as 18th in the country in preseason polling. When asked how the team continues to maintain high rankings year after year, Coach explained that they continue to raise the bar with recruits. He spoke about several new freshman coming in and the talents they bring to the team. Maintaining team members for their entire college career is also important.
In keeping with their efforts to give back to the community, UW-Platteville Athletics introduced a "We Love This City" program in the spring. Optimist Member Carley Borcherding thanked the team for raking her yard after April's hailstorm. Several other Optimists shared similar stories.
Season tickets sales are at an all time high with only a few remaining so get your tickets soon! Your first opportunity to see this year's team in action is at a scrimmage at 5 pm on Saturday, October 25th. Admission is free but please bring a food item. Food donations will be given to local food pantries.
Thank you Coach Gard and Joey! Best of Luck in the upcoming season.
