Platteville School District First Grade Teachers Accept Grant for "Sassy's Vacation" Books for Westview Students

First Grade Teachers from Westview Elementary accepted a $600 donation from the Platteville Optimists. The donation will be used to purchase Sassy's Vacation books for the first graders at Westview Elementary. The author of Sassy's Vacation is Sue Kies, who was also present at the check presentation. The book is about a snapping turtle named Sassy who was found, nursed, and released into the waters of the Rountree Branch. Sue wrote the book to promote nature education on the Rountree Branch Trail in cooperation with the Platteville Community Arboretum (PCA). The proceeds from the sales of the book go to the PCA for the upkeep of the trail. To date, over 1000 books have been delivered to students at Platteville and surrounding area schools by Sue, PCA representatives, and book donors.
